Perry has the father of actors Laurie Metcalf, and Jeff Perry. Her first television roles included two roles in the role of Jackie Harris (as seen in flashback) in her role on the ABC sitcom Roseanne as the character played by her mother. Her parents did not allow her to perform by her parents until she reached adulthood, as they feared the stress it would result in. Perry said she felt timid to perform at the age of 16, but she began doing shows at Northwestern University as a way to connect with people following her transfer to the university from Boston University. Perry made her debut as an actress in New York after graduation, performing in minor parts in Law & Order: Criminal Intent. But homesickness made Perry return to California to work as a stage actress. She performed on Broadway in The Other Place with her mother in the year 2013. The show featured their father Kevin McKidd and Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winning drama Anna Christie in 2015 at The Odyssey Theatre Ensemble, West Los Angeles. Perry starred in nine episodes of ABC's show The Family. In 2017, Perry starred in the role of a political thriller Scandal with her father. She played the role of a younger Mary Cooper (Sheldon Cooper's mother) in Young Sheldon. This spin-off series of CBS's The Big Bang Theory was another younger portrayal of her mother. The role was selected via auditions though she had a close connection with it.
